It's official! Red Hot Chili Peppers will be taking over Foo Fighter's slot at this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival after drummer Taylor Hawkins died last month. The other band's drummer, Chad Smith, revealed his plans for the show.

According to Billboard, the legendary group last played at the iconic music festival more than half a decade ago, and they're now stepping in to fill Foo Fighters' slot.

Speaking about his plans for the show, Smith believes that it would be a great time to honor, pay tribute, and celebrate the life of his good pal.

The drummer said he's inviting the late musician's wife, Alison, and the show will be a "celebration."

"That's what she wants. She doesn't want it to be anything other than, 'Let's celebrate music, let's celebrate our friends, let's celebrate Taylor," Smith noted.

Regarding Hawkins' wife's perspective, the musician said this kind of show is what she would prefer and would be very happy that RHCP is playing.

"We're going to do all that and she's going to be part of that and I'm very honored that we can do that with her. ... We're going to play our hearts out," the drummer added.

Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Pepper have been friends for decades as the former became an opening act for the latter's "Californication" tour in 1999.

After the drummer passed away in Colombia, Smith took to his Instagram account to share an emotional video compiling their moments over the years.

The video concluded, showing the musician paying homage to his good pal when the band received their Hollywood Walk of Fame star on March 31.

Taylor Hawkins' Death

It's been a month since the drummer passed away, but fans, friends, and family are still mourning their loss.

In early reports, the musician died on March 25 in his hotel room in Bogota, Colombia.

Foo Fighters was in the country for a scheduled performance as part of their tour. Hawkins died hours before the show.

Colombian Attorney General's Office reported that toxicology results showed the musician had several drugs in his system like marijuana, opioids, benzodiazepines, and more.

However, no cause of death has been publicized yet despite the report.

An investigation into his passing will continue, and they will report the results in the future.
