The iconic band Red Hot Chili Peppers made a big move to pay tribute to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins over the weekend, and the band has special guests watching the in the audience.

According to People Magazine, the legendary band replaced Foo Fighters to close this year's Jazz Fest in New Orleans.

They took the opportunity to pay tribute to their close friend, who passed away at the age of 50 a few weeks ago.

Among the crowd were Hawkin's wife, Alison, and the iconic Dave Grohl.

At the end of their set, drummer Chad Smith said, "We love the Foo Fighters and we love our brother Taylor Hawkins." (via NOLA)

Their performance comes a few days after Smith spoke to Billboard and revealed his plans about their set, saying it will be a "celebration" of his life.

He also revealed in the interview that the late drummer's widow would be present at the event.

"We're going to do all that and she's going to be part of that and I'm very honored that we can do that with her. ... We're going to play our hearts out," he added.

Connection Between Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers

Two of the legendary bands in the rock industry, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers, have been good pals for decades.

The Dave Grohl-fronted band previously played for RHCP's "Californication" tour in 1999.

After Hawkins' untimely passing, Smith took to social media to share a compilation of their memories over the years.

The video concluded with him paying tribute to his friend when they received their Hollywood Walk of Fame star a few days after the drummer's death.

Taylor Hawkins Dead at 50

Hawkins may have died more than a month ago, but his legacy will forever be sealed in the music industry.

The drummer passed away on March 25 in his hotel room in Bogota, Colombia. He was in the country because Foo Fighters was set to perform at a concert as part of their tour.

He died a few hours before their highly-anticipated performance.

Since then, the band has canceled all of their upcoming shows to grieve their loss.

A cause of death has not been publicized yet, but the Colombian Attorney General's Office reported that his toxicology reports showed that he had several drugs in his system.
