Happy birthday, Sam Smith! The singer is one of the industry's most recognizable voices because of their vocals and meaningful songs. Since the star's last album was released in 2020, many fans wonder what they are up to today.

Sam Smith Age 2022, Bio, Early Life

Born Samuel Fredrick Smith on May 19, 1992, the singer is celebrating their 30th birthday today! The "Lay Me Down" hitmaker, who identifies as non-binary and prefers "they/them" pronouns, was born in London to their parents, Frederick Smith and Kate Cassidy.

They spent their early days in the small village of Great Chishill, Cambridgeshire. They studied at the Thomas More Primary School in their area.

Growing up, the "Like I Can" singer had a tough childhood as they were bullied for having "breats," which led them to undergo liposuction at the young age of 12.

In a previous interview with Huffington Post, Smith said they were delighted to have the surgery, but it didn't change anything on their body as they gained weight after a few weeks.

"I hadn't figured out my relationship with food, so it didn't really change anything. But being 12 years old and having liposuction on your chest is quite a big deal," they said.

Their music career started in 2008 to 2009 by releasing "Bad Day All Week" and "When It's Alright," however, they didn't rise to fame until 2012.

The "Not In That Way" singer's career skyrocketed in their home country when they were featured on Disclosure's "Latch," which became a massive success on the UK Singles Chart.

The following year, Smith dropped the first single off their debut album titled "Lay Me Down," which was later re-released as a collaboration with John Legend.

The singer gained international notoriety when they released "Money on My Mind." In 2014, they announced that their debut album titled "In The Lonely Hour" would be released under Capitol Records.

New Song, Upcoming Tour, More Updates

A few weeks ago, the singer-songwriter released their latest single, "Love Me More." They announced the new song by taking to their social media accounts to post a black and white single cover.

The track was Smith's first single track in almost two years after releasing "The Lighthouse Keeper" in 2020, a collaboration with Labrinth.

Their last album was released the same year, titled "Love Goes."

It seems like fans won't see Sam Smith at live concerts anytime soon because, according to their website, there are currently no live dates available.
