Toby Keith finally broke his silence about the health problem he has been dealing with in the past months.
Keith's fans have been waiting for an announcement about his comeback since he released his album "Peso in My Pocket" last year. But instead of news about his new music, he came back with a shattering update.
On his Twitter account, the singer revealed that he has been battling stomach cancer for the past months.
"Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I've spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation, and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax," he wrote. "I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can't wait."
He shared the same statement on Instagram, but he did not disclose the symptoms he felt before discovering he has cancer.
Keith did not reveal whether it would affect his schedule, but his official website says that he has an upcoming gig at the Ribfest in Illinois on June 17.
According to the American Cancer Society, stomach cancer has different types. Other cancers also start in the patient's organ before developing a similar issue in other body parts. Both most stomach cancers are adenocarcinomas. These develop from the gland cells in a person's innermost lining of the stomach.

Following the revelation, his colleagues, fans, and groups sent him well wishes before he takes his time off to recover and relax.
Ohio State Fair's official Twitter page said, "Our hearts go out to Toby Keith as he courageously battles cancer. Tickets purchased from Ticketmaster for his #ohiostatefair show on July 28, which has been cancelled, will be automatically refunded. Any information about an alternate concert on July 28 is forthcoming."

Keith learned his diagnosis only months after taking time out from making tours due to the pandemic.
Amid the challenges in his life, he also saw a bright light when the former POTUS Donald Trump awarded him the National Medal of Arts, a National Endowment for the Arts that is given to artists and arts "patrons by the United States government."
