Since leaving his former band Journey in 1996 because of a hip injury that hindered him from touring, Steve Perry managed to sustain a solo career. More recently, old pal Neal Schon hinted at the group's relationship with the singer amid their personal issues.

In an interview with Vulture, the guitarist gave fans a gleam of hope as he revealed where he stands with his former bandmate today.

The musician said they have been "talking and getting to know each other again."

However, it appears that Perry won't be collaborating with his former group anytime soon, as Schon confirmed that they're not "trying to get together musically again."

He also clarified that their interactions are primarily about business, pertaining to Journey getting a trademark because the band has never owned one.

The guitarist then opened up about the time when he got together with his old friend during their Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2017, saying he went to his room to have an interaction.

"I managed to get into his room, which was locked down like Fort Knox. We had a good hang in there. I felt like I still knew this guy and we were still really great friends," he said. (via Loudwire)

Explaining his side, the guitarist said when Perry started doing his first interviews, he had a lot of positive things to say about Schon and himself.

However, as time passed, things "dramatically changed" and went a completely different route.

On the other hand, Steve Perry explained in 2020 the reason why he's reluctant to reunite with his band and work with them.

He noted that he and Schon couldn't get together musically, saying a reunion with Journey isn't possible.

"Please listen to me. I left the band 31 f****** years ago, my friend. You can still love someone, but not want to work with them. And if they only love you because they want to work with you, that doesn't feel good to me," he said.

Since Perry's departure in the mid-90s, Arnel Pineda has replaced him as a vocalist/frontman.
