Ed Sheeran, who has been nominated five times at the MTV VMAs 2022, has achieved a historic Spotify record too!

The "Shivers" hitmaker becomes the first artist that have amassed 100 million followers on the streaming platform. Sheeran bested other huge music artists who are still around the 80 million mark.

With the huge accomplishment that the singer achieved, it would make sense for him to receive probably a plaque or even a unique memorabilia, but it seems like Spotify had smaller plans.

Ed Sheeran Historic Spotify Record Downplayed?

Turning to Twitter to announce the amazing news, Ed Sheeran tweeted a video of himself while preparing for a concert performance recently.

In the short video, Sheeran was seen wearing a white T-shirt with a statement - "ASK ME ABOUT MY 100 MILLION SPOTIFY FOLLOWERS," going around happily asking his very own concert staffers to ask him how he got it.

It was revealed earlier that the shirt was, in fact, from Spotify themselves, as a gift for his 100 million followers.

Ed, who seemed to be very excited about the recent milestone, was sarcastically not met with the same hype and anticipation he had on the first few people he asked.

But after a parade of unamused concert staffers, his good friend, and opening act Maisie Peters meets Sheeran with a huge hug after asking him how he got the million people.

Based on his reaction throughout the video, the 31-year-old singer seemed to appreciate Spotify's humble gift for his hundred million followers.

His fans are celebrating with him in the replies, noting that he deserved the milestone.

Ed Sheeran surpasses other singers on the Spotify follower count. Trailing behind him are Ariana Grande, who has 81.7 million followers, Billie Eilish with 66.3 million, Drake with 65.5, and Justin Bieber with 63.3 million.

The historic record, which Sheeran was the first artist ever to achieve, came hours after receiving news that he was nominated for four MTV VMA Awards.
