The MTV VMAs 2022 is coming next week, and the list of nominees finally hit the internet.
Topping the bill are hip-hop chart toppers - Kendrick Lamar, Jack Harlow, and Lil Nas X, who could finally be enthused after the recent BET Awards drama.
MTV is also following the trend of other awards shows which packs more than the usual number of nominees for their respective top awards. In this case, Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Best Alternative.
MTV VMAs 2022 Nominees List
The MTV VMAs 2022 Nominees are packed with a huge roster of pop and hip-hop heavyweights who have been ruling the music scene lately.
This year, the nominees for Video of the Year include a bunch of Billboard chart-toppers: Doja Cat's extra-terrestrial femme fatale "Woman," Harry Styles' "As It Was," Olivia Rodrigo's "brutal," and the record-breaking "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" of Taylor Swift among many others.
Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow's GRAMMY-nominated Song "Industry Baby" was also nominated along with Drake's "Way 2 Sexy" and Ed Sheeran's "Shivers."
Over to the Artist of the Year, Bad Bunny becomes the first Latin singer nominated in the category, sharing the nominations with Lizzo, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, and Lil Nas X.
Meanwhile, the Song of the Year category is a tight fight. Adele's "Easy on Me" is among the strong contenders, as Billie Eilish's "Happier Than Ever," Doja Cat's "Woman," The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber's "Stay," Elton John & Dua Lipa's "Cold Heart (PNAU Remix)," and the most recent Billboard chart-topper, Lizzo's "About Damn Time."

On the other hand, the battle for Best New Artist might go either way. New GRAMMY winner Baby Keem might be in the running, while viral TikTok singer GAYLE could be a strong possibility too. Latto is a force considering her recent win at the BET Awards. Eurovision's Måneskin and Dove Cameron also broke through the scene this year. Korean pop group Seventeen is the only music group that was nominated this year.

Will Lil Nas X Be Happy With 7 MTV VMAs Nominations?
Months ago, Lil Nas X was embroiled in a huge drama with the BET Awards after accusing the network of alleged homophobia after having "0 outstanding nominations" despite his massive album and songs.
Now, Lil Nas X bags seven nominations at the MTV VMAs 2022, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography.
Should the "Montero" hitmaker win this year's Video of the Year, it would be the first time that an artist wins back to back in the top category since he won last year with "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)."
The MTV VMAs 2022 will take place on Aug. 28, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The live telecast will be broadcasted on The CW Network, among many other channels.
