Mumford and Sons bandleader Marcus Mumford has confessed some shocking revelations in his recent interview with GQ Magazine about his unfortunate childhood.

The British-American singer is due to release his self-titled debut album literally named "(self-titled)" on September 16. Among his new set of songs, one particular song will recall his traumatic experience as a young boy.

The upcoming Marcus Mumford album will also be featuring collaborations with other folk rock musicians like Phoebe Bridgers and Brandie Carlile among many others.

Marcus Mumford's SHOCKING Claims on Childhood Experience

Speaking to GQ Magazine recently, Marcus Mumford revealed that he was sexually abused when he was still six years old.

"Like lots of people-and I'm learning more and more about this as we go and as I play it to people-I was sexually abused as a child. Not by family and not in the church, which might be some people's assumption. But I hadn't told anyone about it for 30 years," he revealed.

The 35-year-old crooner did not mention or allude to the gender or the identity of his abuser, but it was apparent in his song, "Cannibal," that it was a traumatic experience for him.

According to Variety, the abuse and the trauma that Mumford has suffered in the past three decades was essentially the backbone of his new album.

"I can still taste you and I hate it / That wasn't a choice in the mind of a child and you knew it," he sang on "Cannibal."

Mumford's mother learned about the abuse after the song was released. He just casually mentioned that it was about the "abuse thing" when he was asked about what the song is about.

"So once we get through the trauma of that moment for her, as a mother, hearing that and her wanting to protect and help and all that stuff, it's objectively f-cking hilarious to tell your mom about your abuse in a fucking song, of all things," he said.

Cannibal's music video was shot using an iPhone and was directed by Academy Award-winning director Stephen Spielberg.

More so, Marcus Mumford's sexual abuse revelation to her mother became the inspiration behind the second lead single, "Grace."
