Olivia Rodrigo made a surprise appearance at Billy Joel's Madison Square Garden performance recently, finally relieving fans' anticipation to see the two on the stage.
Although the pairing might be pretty unlikely, the "Piano Man" was not new to Olivia Rodrigo fans, as he is prominently referenced in her hit song "deja vu."
Coinciding with his 82nd Madison Square Garden sold-out concert, Billy Joel and Olivia Rodrigo treated the fans with a duet of fan-favorite songs.

Olivia Rodrigo sent the crowd roaring at her entrance after Billy Joel introduced her.
"I'm gonna bring up a young musician, who's a very talented singer-songwriter. She won the Billboard Awards 2022 Woman of the Year. She got the American Music Awards. She got all kinds of awards. She's very talented, and I like her music, and so does my kids," Joel says while Rodrigo's "deja vu" instrumental rendition plays in the background.
The GRAMMY-winning singer performed "deja vu," a song that prominently namedrops Billy Joel, which fans believed to have been about then-on-screen boyfriend Joshua Bassett.
"deja vu" is basically Olivia Rodrigo's homage to Bily Joel. In many parts of the song, the young singer addresses his former lover to have been doing the same things as they did, including listening to Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl."
Aside from this, Olivia also angrily accuses her ex in the song of teaching his new lover piano when she was the one who taught him Billy Joel in the first place.

After "deja vu," Billy joined her in performing his all-time classic, "Uptown Girl," which was also referenced in the same song.
The two broke out in a duet, with Olivia singing most parts and Joel belting out the riffs of the song.
After their performance, the two hugged again, earning applause from the Madison Square Garden.
Last night's show marked Billy Joel's 82nd consecutive sold-out show at the Madison Square Garden, resulting from his long-time residency at the New York venue.
According to Variety, Billy Joel's last shows at the Madison Square Garden are on September 9, October 9, November 23, and December 19 this year.
