Rina Sawayama surely knows how to tease fans as she dropped yet another song weeks before the release of her highly-anticipated sophomore album "Hold The Girl."

Since the pop star is popularly known for turning her childhood trauma and personal experiences into music, many are wondering about the meaning behind her new song.

According to Stereogum, the British singer released a power balled titled "Phantom" along with a visualizer.

In a press release, the "Tokyo Love Hotel" songstress said the song is about her realization as an adult that she spent her life "pleasing other people" without realizing it.

She noted that there were times that she pushed her boundaries and there was a big difference between what she wanted to do and other people's intentions to her.

"Through the lyrics in the verse, I'm trying to tell this story, and then in the choruses I'm mourning the loss of my real self," she concluded.

The song was recorded with Clarence Clarity and Stuart Prince, previously known as Les Rythmes Digitales, who worked with big singers like Madonna and Dua Lipa in the past.

According to Pitchfork, the newly-released track was produced by herself along with Lauren Aquilina, Adam Crisp, and Vic Jamieson.

The visuals for the song featured Sawayama standing in two sets, one with a deep blue background and another one with beige.
