Freddie Gibbs is gearing up for the drop of his fifth solo LP "$oul $old $eparately," which is set to be released on Sept 30 via Warner Records.

Gibbs wanted to go all-out with the forthcoming album as this will mark his major label debut. He released the album cover art, depicting what seems to be a funny pink rabbit walking away from a crash site.

The cover art is referencing Gibb's other moniker Big Boss Rabbit. Born Fredrick Jamel Tipton in Gray, Indiana, Gibbs has some studio albums under his belt, but "$oul $old $eparately" is special.

With A Bang

The Indiana-born rapper released "Too Much," featuring Moneybagg Yo ahead of the rest of the album, giving fans a taste of what is to come.

"$oul $old $eparately," Gibbs' highly-anticipated solo studio album, succeeds "Freddie" released in 2018. It also has to live up to pretty high standards set by "Alfredo," an album Gibbs made alongside The Alchemist in 2020.

According to reports, "Alfredo" is "arguably the best rap release of 2020," and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.

Underrated No More?

The 40-year-old rapper revealed that "$oul $old $eparately" references his "refusal to compromise his morals or integrity under the pressures of the industry," Hypebeast reports.

Additionally, he promised that the upcoming album would be the album of the year, reflecting on how he has been a late bloomer in the rap scene.

"I feel like I've been so underrated and overlooked and underappreciated in the rap game. I feel like I'm just now starting to get my flowers, and I'm gonna take them motherf**kers," he said.

In an interview with Hypebeast the previous year following his appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, he shared that "the rap game can be draining."

"You produce, perform, and, you know, have to be on point at all times. It can be difficult and people are very, very critical," he said.

That is why he is deadly serious about making music and rap. He noted that every project he embarks on has to have a theme, to give audiences a good experience.

His recently released music video for "Too Much" puts together his talent for acting and rap music. The music video follows Gibbs and Moneybagg Yo in a casino and the theme reportedly pays homage to classic heist movies.

It ends with Gibbs driving away from the casino, cash flying around as he makes his great escape. The music video was directed by JMP, with creative direction from Ben Lambert or Lambo, Gibbs' manager.

More To Come

Aside from making music and acting, Gibbs also wants to try his hand at being a restauranteur.

He revealed that the success of their merchandise popups was the reason behind his collaboration with BURGERS 99, "Shoutout BURGERS 99, they really inspired me to go hard and really get into the restaurant thing. I'm gonna do the popup restaurant at Lollapalooza."

Perhaps there is more to see from the rapper, because he says he has a lot up his sleeve.
