Maren Morris took part in a social media debate with Jason Aldean's Wife, Brittany Aldean, following her comments about transgender children. The feud left the singer furious and unsure whether she should still attend the CMA Awards. #MarenMorris

Last month, Aldean posted on Instagram a clip of herself putting makeup on, and captioned it, "I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life."

Her husband even commented, "Lmao!! I'm glad they didn't too, cause you and I wouldn't have worked out, [sic]" with a laughing emoji.

Not Funny

However, not everyone shared their jest, and found the comments offensive, deeming them transphobic in nature.

Among the people who were not amused were Moris and Cassadee Pope, who both clapped back at the blogger.

""You'd think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging," Pope tweeted.

"But instead here we are, hearing someone compare their "tomboy phase" to someone wanting to transition. Real nice."

Morris replied under Pope's tweet, writing, "It's so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie," taking a jab at Aldean.

Aldean in return took to Instagram to address the issue, "Advocating for the genital mutilation of children under the disguise of love and calling it 'gender-affirming care' is one of the worst evils," and tagged Pope.

"I will always support my children and do what I can to protect their innocence [...] Love is protecting your child until they are mature enough as an adult to make their own life decisions."

Instead of directly addressing Aldean, Morris decided to pivot and thank her fans who are members of the LGBTQIA+.

"Y'all have been so sweet and supportive today of me and Cassadee," said the 32-year-old singer.

"[...] I'm just so sick of looking at absolute horses**t on the internet and people getting away with it, much less being celebrated for it," she said.

"But I would say check on your trans friends. Check on your gay friends. Anyone that is in country music and had to look at that bulls**t today and feel subhuman. Check on your friends."

Bullies Behind Screens

Morris went on the "I'm Listening" podcast and opened up about the issue further, noting that she feels "terrible" for the children who are growing up amid the social media era.

"People can cowardly hide behind their phone screens. I totally feel for the kids that are dealing with that because I'm where I'm at and I still deal with that," she said, adding that the cycle of bullying "never really ends."

The "The Middle" singer declared 'I stand up for injustices when I see them!" Noting that her attempts at being the "better person" helps her sleep more soundly at night.

However, despite the brave face, she has put on, Morris shared that she does not feel comfortable attending the CMA Awards following her public feud with Aldean.

"Honestly, I haven't decided if I'm gonna go,' she said. "I'm very honored that my record is nominated. But I don't know if I feel [at] home there right now."

"So many people I love will be in that room, and maybe I'll make a game-time decision and go. But as of right now, I don't feel comfortable going."
