During her interview with "The Daily Show," Brandi Carlile shared some very exciting news with fans-Joni Mitchell will be joining her in June the following year for "Echoes Through The Night," as a part of a "Joni Jam."

"No one's been able to buy a ticket to see Joni Mitchell play in 20 years," said the 41-year-old singer. "So this is enormous, and she's so excited because it's close to Canada and some of her Canadian fans."

A very enthusiastic Carlile added, "I can't believe it's happening, but it's happening, and she is going to crush it. So if you can get there, get there."

Mitchell is currently 78 years old and reportedly hasn't performed in about two decades, which was brought about by her brain aneurysm back in 2015.

Newport Surprise

Mitchell surprised fans back in July at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island when she stepped on stage for a performance.

Apparently, the short but memorable performance at Newport breathed life into the performer in Mitchell, because following her performance she revealed that she wanted to perform in another show.

"After Newport, Joni said 'I want to do another show.' She said 'I want to play again,'" Carlile shared.

The "Right On Time" singer revealed that she and Mitchell have been doing jam sessions with other musical artist friends in the latter's California home, and that the surprise performance was something like those sessions.

According to reports, they performed "A Case Of You," "Both Sides Now," "The Circle Game," and others.

Carlile recalled the momentous performance, "She completely took over the show and became the performer that we all know that she is."

"We didn't go to sleep that night. We stayed up until the sun came up. Joni, flat out, loves to perform and she's awesome at it."

Legendary

Mitchell, born Roberta Joan Anderson, hails from Alberta, Canada, and before she even turned 20, she was already performing at local hotels, cafes, and other venues.

In 1968, she released her first studio album, "Song to a Seagull. She continued to release music regularly until 2007.

Her 1971 album "Blue" was well-received and critically acclaimed, often cited as one of the best albums of all time, and ranked 30th out of 500 in Rolling Stone's 2003 list. Mitchell is also considered "one of the greatest songwriters ever" by the same publication.

Mitchell has received numerous awards and honors, including being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame back in 1981 and receiving the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

She has been both awarded and honored at the Grammy Awards as well. Some of her most notable albums, "Both Sides, Now" "River: The Joni Letters," and "Joni Mitchell Archives-Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967)" all received Grammy nods.

Although she suffered from a brain aneurysm, this did not stop Mitchell from performing here and there. She has done few appearances throughout the years, but the upcoming event will be her first time in a long time to headline a concert again.
