Jay-Z is planning to expand his vast empire from music to sports, and he is not doing it alone; he teamed up with Amazon's Jeff Bezos in acquiring the NFL team, Washington Commanders.

According to reports, this marks the first time the rapper showed any interest in owning an NFL team. However, this is not the first time he has worked with the league.

He was looking to gain a "significant ownership interest" in an NFL. His company, Roc Nation Sports is a representative of multiple NFL athletes.

The 52-year-old has been assisting in NFL's social justice endeavors. When followed up for a comment on Bezos' interest in taking ownership on the Washington Commanders, a representative for the sports team responded, by saying: "we are not commenting on who has or has not expressed interest".

Jay-Z used to hold an ownership to the Brooklyn Nets. Amazon has entered into a business partnership with the NFL this year. The said partnership is in streaming form.

Bezos' Treatment

According to reports, Jay-Z is not the only one looking into purchasing an NFL team. Bezos, the founder of Amazon, also expressed his interest in owning the Washington Commanders, possibly in collaboration with Jay-Z.

Roots

It comes as no surprise that Jay-Z is interested in getting more involved in the sport, after all, the National Football League is one of the strongest and most influential sports leagues in the country.

His name is forever tied to one of the most successful and impactful performances, the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, which bagged several awards.

It won Outstanding Variety Live Special, Outstanding Music Direction for a Variety Special, Outstanding Variety Special (Live), and Primetime Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special at the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022.

The iconic performances included those from Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. It was a monumental performance, as it paid homage to hip-hop music.

Many credit Jay-Z for being the brains behind the entire thing, as he had been the one to bring in an artist. According to reports, he was the reason why Dr. Dre agreed to perform in the first place.

Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Corey Carter, was born in New York City. He rose to prominence following the debut of his studio album "Reasonable Doubt" in 1996.
