Zayn Malik has not released any new music in 2022, which has left many wondering if his music career is a thing of the past-but fear not, because he came out of his mini hiatus to deliver a touching tribute to Jimi Hendrix.
Malik paid tribute to the late guitarist by unveiling his take on Hendrix's song "Angel," released in 1971, on what should have been Hendrix's 80th birthday.
The One Direction alum's touching tribute reached Hendrix's estate, and they were reportedly pleased with Malik's version of the song.
"We are pleased that Zayn has been inspired to use original music from Jimi Hendrix's 'Angel' in his recording of the song.
We're hopeful that this version of a Hendrix classic will enlighten a new generation of listeners about Jimi's genius and further propel his continuing legacy," said a spokesperson for Experience Hendrix, L.L.C.
Malik opened up about how he came to cover the song via an Instagram post, wherein he wrote: "Being asked to collaborate to celebrate @jimihendrix 80th birthday was such an unexpected and huge honour.
"I have so much respect and admiration for Jimi, his music and fans. 'Angel' is out now - hope you love the track as much as I do. Happy 80th Jimi."

As of this writing, the video uploaded on YouTube has garnered over 7,000 views and a thousand likes. Fans gushed over the British singer's cover, noting how well he performed it.
"WWhat a great song by the legend Jimi Hendrix, covered beautifully and given the justice," wrote a fan in the comments.
Another added, "Mad props for Zayn, added his twist of masterful flavor but stayed true to the song!"
A fan commented on how they could not wait to hear the rest of Malik's music. "Zayn voice is so powerful and I'm so glad we have to hear it with a new song. So excited for the 4th album."
According to reports, this marks the singer's first release this year, but fans are hopeful that he will make a music comeback soon.
Music Comeback?
After Malik's departure from One Direction, he went on to pursue a solo career, signing a contract with RCA Records.
He released his debut solo studio album "Mind of Mine" in 2016, followed by "Icarus Falls" in 2018, and "Nobody Is Listening" in 2021.
The 29-year-old singer can rest a little easy, knowing that he has very supportive fans in his corner as well as a $75 million net worth.
As of this writing, though, he is yet to announce any new material, so fans would just have to wait a little bit longer.
