Megan Thee Stallion is desperate to make Tory Lanez serve jail time after the rapper allegedly shot her in the foot.

Two years after the shooting incident happened, the court finally held the opening statements in the case. The Guardian and Rolling Stone confirmed the development, quoting the female rapper's desire to make Lanez hold the responsibility over what happened.

Lanez will face more than 22 years of imprisonment if he is convicted on the three felony counts and found guilty of the 2020 shooting.

Los Angeles county prosecutors Kathy Ta and Alexander Bott said Lanez shot the 27-year-old "Hot Girl Summer" rapper using a semi-automatic firearm two years ago.

The male rapper - whose real name is Daystar Peterson - insisted on his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the felony charges against him.

Judge David Herriford will be the one to release the verdict soon as Lanez waived his right to a jury trial over the newly added felony charge.

Before the recent development, Megan appeared in a Rolling Stone cover story this year in which she expressed her desire to see Lanez go to jail.

"I thought we had a real connection. I thought he knew me. And I never would've thought he would've shot at me at all. I never put my hands on this man. I never did anything to him. There was an argument. People argue every day. Friends argue every day," she went on.

What Happened Between Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez?

It all started when Lanez was arrested in July 2020 for having a concealed weapon. A month later, Megan went on Instagram Live, where she revealed that the rapper shot her.

The two continuously sparred online through their social media accounts and music.

Despite the female rapper's accusations, Lanez maintained his innocence and alleged that Megan lied about being shot and that her Roc Nation management team tried to frame him.

One time, he claimed they had an intimate relationship while seeing one of her friends. Thus, it reportedly led to the conflict. Megan strongly denied it.

In October 2020, she wrote a New York Times opinion piece where she talked about suffering from judgment and skepticism despite being a victim.

After the release of the article, high-profile women and organizations voiced their support for Megan and defended her against the continued verbal and cultural violence.
