At the time of its debut, Silentó was only 17 years old and appeared to be one of the decade's biggest sensations, since the song spent six weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. But barely five years after the publication of 'Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae),' Silentó's life took a dark turn when he was arrested for the first of many times following a domestic disturbance.

Silentó, whose actual name is Richard Lamar Ricky Hawk, was arrested for the first time on August 28, 2020 and accused with assaulting a spouse or cohabitant. The very following day, Hawk was arrested again while searching for his fiancée, after he allegedly entered a stranger's house while carrying a hatchet. Two months later, Hawk once again found himself in handcuffs.
On a Georgia highway, he allegedly drove at rates of 143 miles per hour, resulting in his arrest for speeding. A few months later, on 21 January 2021, Hawk was booked into an Illinois jail on one count of murder after police responded to an early morning shots fired report.
Indicted, Jailed
On 1 February, Hawk was formally charged with premeditated murder and felony murder for the killing of his cousin, Frederick Rooks. Hawk was indicted on August 3, 2021 for murder with malice, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. According to police records, on January 21, officers responding to gunshot complaints in a residential area discovered Rooks bleeding profusely in the roadway. He was fatally wounded in the face and leg and pronounced dead at the site.
In a statement issued at the time, DeKalb County Police Department confirmed that Ricky Hawk, 23, was arrested for the murder of his cousin Frederick Rooks, 34."
On January 21, the DeKalb County Police Department conducted an investigation into the shooting murder of Rooks, who was discovered on Deep Shoals Circle. Hawk is incarcerated in the DeKalb County Jail on charges of murder. After his arrest, Hawk's publicist stated that the rapper has suffered from "a series of mental health issues" in recent years and asked for compassion and prayers.
