Former Sonic Youth singer/guitarist Thurston Moore has shared some details about his upcoming solo album The Best Day, including its artwork, tracklist, and title track, which you can check out below. He has also expanded his current tour.
The title track for The Best Day has a considerably lighter and more accessible style than Sonic Youth's typical avant-garde freak-outs, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's conventional. The song comes off as a more angular, post-punk version of Pavement or Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, with its sunny melody and characteristically inventive guitar playing.
The Best Day will be Thurston Moore's first solo album since 2011's Beck-produced Demolished Thoughts, and his fourth solo album overall. The album is set for release on Oct. 20 through Matador Records and was recorded with Moore's new band, which includes Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, My Bloody Valentine bassist Debbie Googe, and Guapo guitarist James Sewards.
