It seemed like the 2023 BRIT Awards were rather more controversial than spectacular as the annual music awards show was filled with drama before and during the show.

In the past few months, the BRITS has received backlash from the community and fans alike after the lack of female nominations in the Artist of the Year category and the lack of R&B acts in the Pop/R&B category.

Now, it seemed like the host, comedian Mo Gilligan, seemed to have pressed more than he should have pulled on the jokes and tirades during the program.

2023 BRIT Awards Lewis Capaldi Joke

BRIT Awards host Mo Gilligan received flak online after he introduced Song of the Year nominee Lewis Capaldi. But instead of saying "Lewis," for some confusing reasons, he introduced him as "Sam Capaldi."

People online were confused about who he was introducing to perform.

"SAM Capaldi? Don't do my husband like that," someone shared, posting alongside an angry meme.

"Between 2 acts of pre-watershed swearing, Mo introducing Lewis Capaldi as Sam Capaldi, and Tom Grennan having an absolute 'mare talking to Ellie Goulding, tonight's turning into a classic for all the wrong reasons," another posted.

Good thing, Capaldi was fun and was okay with the booboo. In fact, he posted a photo of his face stuck on Sam Smith's BRITS Red Carpet latex suit - attracting more laughs than backlash now that he has played along with it.

2023 BRIT Awards Leigh Ann Pinnock Motherhood Joke

During one of his in-between interviews, Gilligan also went on to have a chat with the former Little Mix alum.

"I have to ask, who's babysitting tonight. Tomorrow's Sunday, are you going out? Having it large?" he asked Pinnock, who was unamused by the question.

"Nanna's at home, yeah," she coldly replied.

Because of this, many have called out Gilligan again for the rather "sexist" remarks - asking how come Pinnock was asked about motherhood while everyone else was asked about other things.

"Mo asking Leigh-Anne who's looking after the children is literally so annoying when women are constantly reduced to being questioned about motherhood their whole lives. it's not like she was a part of the biggest girl band in the world or anything?" someone pointed out.
