"Mean Girls: The Musical" is coming to Paramount this year, all decked with new artists playing the cult-classic roles.

But since the news came up on the air, fans of the well-loved show have been asking - will the original actresses be reprising their roles or be appearing one way or another in the upcoming project?

Actually, Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried agreed to return for their project. However, production problems came in the way of the full-circle moment.

According to trusted Page Six sources, "disrespectful" money talks are keeping the public from seeing the OG Plastics in the upcoming musical movie.

"Paramount Pictures doesn't want to pay the girls what they are worth. All four girls were willing to come back, but Paramount has not been respectful of what they are worth," the outlet reveals.

Since the film, all four actresses' careers have taken off.

Lohan made a comeback last year in a Netflix Christmas film. McAdams starred in the "Dr. Strange" Marvel franchise, while Emmy-Award winner Seyfried took on more movies and television roles, and so Chabert was hailed the Queen of Hallmark movies.

The outlet further notes that McAdams has been offered a larger role than the three. Tina Fey, who created the film and starred in it, will be reprising her role along with Tim Meadows. Fey, however, will be offered a 7-figure fee, while Lohan, Chabert, and Seyfried will only be given a "fraction" of that.

"Whether they appear in a cameo appearance or they have six pages of script, it doesn't matter - [the money offered] is disrespectful," the source reveals.

The four of them would not be reprising their roles as they have already been cast.

Broadway's Regina Georgie Renee Rapp will be reprising her role in the upcoming project, while Angourie Rice, Avantika, and Bebe Wood will be playing Cady Heron, Karen Smith, and Gretchen Weiners, respectively.

Tony-nominated Jaquel Spivey plays Damian, while Auliʻi Cravalho takes on Janis Ian, as "The Summer I Turned Pretty" actor Christopher Briney will play the charming Aaron Samuels.

The source reveals that up until now, the negotiations for the four actresses to return to the film are still "stalled."

In a recent interview with Seth Myers, Fey revealed that production for "Mean Girls: The Musical" starts March 2023.
