Jason Newsted Bio 

Jason Curtis Newsted was born on March 4, 1963 in Battle Creek, Michigan. On October 2002, Newsted joined the Canadian heavy metal group, Voivod as their bassist. Jason formally joined Voivod when the latter released their 13th studio album, "Multiverse." Newsted gets a moniker from Voivod called "Jasonic," according to Imdb. 

How Jason Newsted Started His Music Career 

After having left Michigan to start a music career by relocating somewhere else in 1981, Newsted formed a band called, Dogz. In 1983, this band changed its name to Flotsam and Jetsam, as per reported on Allmusic.com. Flotsam and Jetsam specialized in a metal style that was newly founded at the time, called, "thrash."

In 1986, Jason replaced previous Metallica bassist, Cliff Burton. Burton was killed in an accident that involved a tour bus of Metallica's that crashed in Sweden as the heavy metal band toured Europe. 22 years ago, though, on January 2001, Newsted made the difficult decision to leave Metallica, according to an article published on Loudwire. Newsted shared that it wasn't easy for him to make the decision to part ways with Metallica. 

Newted cited that the reason why he left Metallica was due to the difficulty he encountered to contribute creatively to the band. Another reason why Jason decided Metallica wasn't for him was because the other members were too busy fighting Napster, instead of spending time creating new music materials, as per reported on Loudwire.
