Susan Boyle is living her best life-even if she's living in the same council house she grew up in as a child.

For her birthday this year, the "Britain's Got Talent" star drew back the curtains and welcomed everyone into her home.

It has been over a decade since Boyle gave the performance of her life, which catapulted her into success and fame, with a net worth of over $24 million to boot.

However, one striking thing about her life that surprised a lot of fans was the simplicity of her home.

Despite being a millionaire, the singer still lives in the same modest house for the last 60 years and still sticks to a tight budget.

Apparently, there's a perfectly good reason why the singer refuses to live in luxury like many expected her to.

"It's to do with the memories of your house and your upbringing, you need to take stock of things and maybe see where you come from and where your roots lie," Boyle explained.

"It's best to be grounded and with your roots. It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn't say."

Indulgence

Staying grounded doesn't mean that the singer has not indulged herself over the years, though.

According to reports, Boyle has redecorated her home several times before and made it more appealing and homey.

"It was a tiny kitchen before, there was a big round table, four chairs and a cooker," she laughed. "You had to really watch what you were doing."

Aside from having a talent for singing, Boyle revealed that she also has a knack for home decorations.

She showed off a particular part of her home that was a bit glamorous for a council home; it had a chandelier-style floor lamp as well as silver striped wallpaper.

Alongside the glamorous decor was the addition of a semi-detached ex-council house next door.

Mirror UK reported that the singer also bought the house next door to make her "dream house" come true.

Tight Budget?

In 2010, she told Piers Morgan about how she handles her finances; she explained how she only gives herself an allowance of £300-500 or $300-$600.

"I'm always careful with money. I'm not saying I'm mean, but I'm always careful," said the singer. "I have an allowance, it's about £300-500 a week because that's plenty for me. It's pocket money."

Boyle's lifestyle is quite surprising given that her albums are well-loved and best-sellers.

She stays humble despite boasting number of awards and accolades like being nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2011 Grammy Awards and Best Traditional Pop Album at the 2012 Grammy Awards.
