Matty Healy is known to throw a controversial take or two, but he isn't all that apologetic for everything that he's ever said.

In fact, there's an ongoing joke making its rounds on TikTok of The 1975's guitarist, Adam Hann, cutting off Healy as he was about to say something that could end up "canceling" him.

"These guys can cut me off whenever they want", the vocalist said. "I don't think it's racist to say that..."

Then Hann cuts him by playing the intro to their hit song "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)."

However, The 1975 is not always present when Healy makes appearances, to stop him from saying something "stupid."

That is what led to the "Somebody Else" singer's awkward apology to rising star rapper Ice Spice.

Podcast Show

As it happens, the back story of this specific incident took place in February, reports say.

Healy appeared on "The Adam Friedland Show," where he talked about Harry Styles and his "queer-baiting" tendencies, before proceeding to talk about Ice Spice.

He, Friedland, and the podcast co-host Nick Mullen, discussed and laughed about the New York-based rapper, and even debated on what her heritage is.

According to reports, they pondered whether she is Hawaiian, Inuit, or Chinese, and mocked those accents.

Apology?

Healy was eventually called out by several people, including Yungblud, who tweeted: "Love listening to three privileged white dudes sit around and objectify a young black female artist who's blowing up. Welcome to your 30's, I guess."

The word got back to Healy, who decided to issue a public apology to Ice Spice during his Auckland, New Zealand show.

"I just feel a bit bad, and I'm kind of a bit sorry if I've offended you," the vocalist said.

However, despite offering a genuine apology, and apologizing for mocking entire races, Healy doubled down on how unapologetic he really was about the entire thing.

"Ice Spice, I'm sorry. It's not because I'm annoyed that my joking got misconstrued. It's because I don't want Ice Spice to think I'm a d**k," he continued.

I love you, Ice Spice. I'm so sorry. I don't want it to be misconstrued as mean. I don't mind being a bit of a joker... but I am genuinely sorry if I've upset them because I f**king love them."

According to Billboard, at this point of the show, the vocalist was already cradling a half-drunk bottle of wine.
