George Harvey Strait was born on May 18, 1952 in Poteet, Texas. Strait grew up in a small town called Pearsall in in south Texas. He was born to a father who worked as a junior high-school math teacher, while operating a ranch, located around 40 miles to the southwest, that had been owned by the Straits for almost a century.
As per Brittanica, George Strait did not initially exhibited a keen interest in country music at a young age. Strait developed more of an interest in rock songs, utilizing his limited guitar skills with his high school garage band in playing these songs.
How George Strait Established His Music Career
George Strait repeatedly failed in breaking through the country music market in Nashville. However, in 1981, luck paved the way for Strait as MCA records signed him onto a one-song contract. At the time, Strait and the record label agreed upon that if the said song became a hit, the label would offer George a long-term record contract
George's song, "Unwound" (1981) topped the number six spot on the Billboard magazine's Hot Country Songs chart. Thus, he got an extended partnership with MCA records. From that point on, it didn't take long for Strait to make a name for himself in the country music biz.
