Tupac Shakur, or 2Pac, will receive another heartfelt tribute and honor years after his death.

Nearly 27 years after Tupac Shakur died, Oakland's City Council confirmed it would honor the late rapper by naming a portion of MacArthur Boulevard after him. It previously remembered his legacy by establishing Tupac Shakur Day.

Tupac Shakur To Have Oakland Street Named After Him

Council member Carroll Fife pitched the idea to Oakland's City Council (via Hot New Hiphop), saying that the portion between Grand Avenue and Van Buren Avenue would be named "Tupac Shakur Way."

"Tupac Shakur's legacy will continue through his contributions in art and social outreach, through his family and fans, touching countless lives of children and elders over the years while alive and after his death, taken too young by gun violence," Fife said in the resolution, per Vibe.

Before Tupac Shakur, the city of Oakland also named a street after Too $hort in 2022.

Tupac Shakur's Death

Tupac Shakur died days after he was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas in 1993.

Days before his passing, he and some of his entourage got involved in a violent fight with a man who was later identified as a member of the Los Angeles-based Crips street gang. Hours after the brawl, Tupac Shakur road car driven by Death Row Records head Marian "Suge" Knight when a white Cadillac pulled up at a stoplight and opened fire in their direction.

Police revealed in the report at least 12 shots were fired during the incident: four of which hit Tupac Shakur and one grazed Suge Knight's head.

The rapper was rushed to the University Medical Center, where he underwent an emergency surgery. His doctors said his condition was improving days after his admission, but on Sep. 13, he died of his gunshot wounds.

Six months after his death, his rap rival, Christopher Wallace, was murdered in a similar event in Los Angeles.
