This week, Michael Grimm-the winner of season five of "America's Got Talent"-has been placed in intensive care and sedated due to an unknown illness.

His wife, Lucie Zolcerva-Grimm, confirmed the blues musician's hospitalization on Wednesday morning.

Reaching out to her 7,000 Instagram followers, Lucie gave an update on her husband, Grimm's health, which had taken a worrying turn.

In the video she posted on Instagram, the 44-year-old appeared ill and often fussed around.

Lucie reported that Michael, a Mississippi native, has now graduated to breathing independently, yet he is still unconscious.

She further noted that due to needing to use a ventilator for some time, he must now face vocal cord reconstruction and be left without any voice. Unfortunately, the source of Michael's medical ailment remains unknown.

Just days before his hospitalization, Michael - who made a memorable marriage proposal to Lucie on an episode of "The Ellen Show" in 2010 - could not finish any of his upcoming gigs.

Lucie described his condition as so bad that he "barely walked."

According to the singer's wife, "I rushed him to the ER because I thought something was wrong, like he was having a stroke or something. That wasn't the case, luckily."

She added, "Whatever was going on in his body from whatever, toxins, I guess, they were going to his brain, he started talking gibberish.

Lucie reported that while the progress of his recovery was encouraging, it still needed considerable time for completion.

Despite being off the ventilator, he remained heavily sedated due to his long period of bedridden illness. "He is improving, so that is good - it's just taking time," she added.
