There has been a video making rounds all over social media in which people believe Sam Smith jumped on their fans while they were performing in a concert, little did online users know that the clip was misleading; what happened?

According to Page Six, a video posted on Twitter was shared with the caption, "Sam Smith doing a stage dive at [their] Seattle show."

In the clip, a person wearing a green outfit could be seen jumping in the crowd in what appears to be a music event, but the video didn't end well as the unknown man seemed to have fallen on the floor face down as no one caught him.

As of this writing, the video had been viewed over seven million times by Twitter users.

Sam Smith Stage Dive Video: Was It Really the Singer?

The social media platform now has a feature wherein they debunk misleading tweets as there is a disclaimer under the video wherein users could see the context behind what happened.

In the text, an article by Newsweek was linked wherein the origin of the clip was discussed.

Per the outlet, the man was not Sam Smith based on other angles where the face can be seen, it was an unknown person who sported a "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" costume during a Vanilla Ice show in Canyonville Oregon earlier this month.

Sam Smith Defended by Fans

There have been several users who shared their negative thoughts about the singer, leading their fans to defend them from any of the body-shaming remarks.

"This is not Sam Smith and y'all need to leave them alone it's getting weird," one user wrote.

"The fatphobia Sam Smith faces daily will never be as funny as you all seem to think it is," another one wrote, while another one expressed, "assuming it's sam smith just bc he's fat is so nasty

As of this writing, the "Stay With Me" singer, who identifies as non-binary and uses "they/them" in pronouns, has not publicly commented on the matter.

In other Sam Smith updates, the singer has a series of concerts in the coming months. Their next scheduled show would be at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 5, 2023.
