Sammy Hagar spoke candidly about whether a Van Halen reunion is possible after Eddie Van Halen's death.

Van Halen had Hagar as its frontman from 1985 to 1996, but the singer returned in 2004 to become part of the band's reunion tour. Years after Eddie's death, he shared his thoughts about another reunion with the band and explained why it is impossible now.

Why Van Halen's Reunion Will NOT Happen

Speaking during an interview with THAT Rocks! podcast with Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine, and Don Jamieson, Hagar opened up about Eddie Van Halen's tribute concert and Van Halen's reunion.

According to Hagar, fans' wish to see the band on one stage is unlikely to happen as Alex Van Halen does not respond to him despite trying to reach out to him several times.

He added more reasons why Van Halen's reunion is impossible, including Wolfgang Van Halen already doing a great job with his current work and Dave Lee Roth's lack of cooperation in planning a show.

"So if [Dave] goes out by himself, that's not a Van Halen reunion; that's half a Van Halen reunion," he continued. "If I go out by myself without him, it's a half a Van Halen reunion. Only good news about that is that I could sing his songs just fine."

Though a reunion with Alex is doable, Hagar ultimately dismissed the idea of having a Van Halen reunion without Eddie.

His comment resonated with what he told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk" about the Van Halen tribute concert.

Nobody Can Replace Eddie Van Halen, Say Van Halen's Surviving Members

Hagar is not the only member who wants a Van Halen reunion but thinks it is possible without Eddie.

Joe Satriani told Ultimate Class Rock and Culture that anyone who would try to replace the late guitarist or perform without him would get "a whole lot of negativity" from social media.

Eddie died on Oct. 6, 2020, at St. Johns Hospital in Santa Monica following his long battle with cancer. He was initially diagnosed with throat cancer, but it spread to his other organs at the time of his death.

Aside from the dreaded illness, he also dealt with other health issues, including lung cancer, brain tumor, and intestinal problems.
