Unbeknownst to many, it has since been a decade since Miley Cyrus stirred debate and a mountain of backlash because of her music video for the song "Wrecking Ball."

She attracted a lot of criticism from fans, critics, and even people in the music industry as well. Among those was the late Sinead O'Connor.

Now, Miley Cyrus has gone into deep introspection and realized that she should have reacted differently back then.

Miley Cyrus, Sinead O'Connor 'Wrecking Ball' Drama

In 2013, Miley Cyrus shocked the world when she released the music video for "Wrecking Ball." At the time, Miley was fresh from her Disney Channel teen star image, which is why many were surprised when she shifted to a lewd, sexually promiscuous image. In the video, she was nude and in underwear most of the scenes - licking a sledgehammer and riding the wrecking ball.

Ten years later, Cyrus has reflected on her past actions - specifically during her reaction to Sinead O'Connor's open letter about her.

"At the time when I made 'Wrecking Ball', I was expecting for there to be controversy and backlash, but I don't think I expected other women to put me down or turn on me, especially women that had been in my position before," she revealed.

At the time, O'Connor expressed concern over Cyrus's statements to Rolling Stone comparing her video "Wrecking Ball" and how it is the most modern version of "Nothing Compares 2 U."

"I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way 'cool' to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos," the late music icon said at the time. "It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether its the music business or yourself doing the pimping."

In response, Cyrus retorted back then, making fun of O'Connor and comparing her to Amanda Bynes, who was also suffering from mental health struggles. O'Connor remained serious - saying "I was unwell and seeking help. I was unwell and seeking help," she told The Hollywood Reporter.

What Would Miley Cyrus Have Done Now?

According to Miley, as she said in her "Endless Summer Vacation: Continued (Backyard Sessions)," she had "no idea" about the "fragile mental state" that Sinead O'Connor was in back then as she had little to no idea about mental illness at 20 years old. (via People Magazine)

"All that I saw was that another woman had told me that this idea was not my idea, and even if I was convinced that it was, it was still just men in power's idea of me and they had manipulated me to believe that it was my own idea when it never really was. And it was. And it is. And I still love it," she added.
