Metallica rescheduled the second show of its M72 No Repeat Weekend after James Hetfield tested positive for COVID-19.

The rockers ultimately canceled their Sunday show after Friday's short and abbreviated concert due to the frontman's health issues. They were set to perform in Glendale but ended up moving it to Saturday, September 9.

Metallica Reschedules Show Because of James Hetfield's Health Issues

On Metallica's Instagram page, the band confirmed that the M72 No Repeat Weekend's second show in Glendale has been postponed and rescheduled because of Hetfield's diagnosis.

"We're extremely disappointed and regret any inconvenience this has caused you; we look forward to returning to complete the M72 No Repeat Weekend in Glendale next Saturday," it added.

The M72 Weekend Takeover events on September 2 and 3 will still be happening, assuring fans that the singer can return to the stage already.

The postponement came after fans expressed disappointment when Metallica cut short its Friday night set. According to Setlist.fm, the band only performed 14 songs - two less than the previous setlist after it removed "Master of Puppets" and "The Day That Never Comes - because of Hetfield's vocal issues.

"Hetfield did appear to relinquish his lead-singing duties to the audience more often as the night wore on, but I thought it was just to make the crowd feel more like part of the performance," Ed Masley of the Arizona Republic said in his review.

After this week's performances, Metallica will visit the last three cities of its 2023 schedule: Indio, St. Louis and Detroit. It tapped Five Finger Death Punch, Greta Van Fleet, Architects, Pantera, Ice Nine Kills, Mammoth WVH and Volbeat as the opening acts.

Metallica's Song Hits 1 Billion Plays on Spotify

Three decades after Metallica's "The Black Album," or the band's self-titled album, was released in 1991, its track "Nothing Else Matters" officially became one of the less than 500 songs on Spotify to have one billion streams.

The track is the band's second song to reach the mark, following "Enter Sandman" which currently has 1.2 billion plays. Meanwhile, Metallica is about to welcome more songs to the club as "Master of Puppets" now has 722 million plays while "One" and "The Unforgiven" have 488 million and 460 million, respectively.
