Get in losers, we'll be going to the theatres to watch "Mean Girls: The Musical" movie!

It has been confirmed that despite initial reports that it would go directly to streaming, "Mean Girls: The Musical" would instead be treated with a theatrical release.

'Mean Girls: The Musical' Movie Release Date

According to Entertainment Tonight, the movie adaptation of the Tony-nominated musical, "Mean Girls," will be released on Jan. 12, 2024.

While it is sad that it won't be released on a Wednesday, to give everyone the chance to say that "On Wednesdays, we wear pink" of the Plastics, it might be a strategic move to have the movie released on a weekend.

Per the outlet, the announcement comes days before October 3. Fans of the movie and the musical would definitely know the context and the relevance of the said date because it was the day that Cady Heron became really smitten when Aaron Samuels asked her what date it was - which would then be the start of the lead character's journey.

'Mean Girls: The Musical' Difference From Movie

Angourie Rice will play Cady Heron in the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical. Speaking to the outlet, Rice assured that the new film wouldn't be "too similar or too different."

"I think it's going to be what it is, and I can't wait for people to see it."

As for playing the iconic role, Rice assured that her performance of Cady would be different from Lohan's.

"I think no matter what, no two people are going to do the same thing the same way. So I think no matter what, it's going to be different," she revealed. "Even if you got two actors in a room to say the exact same speech, it's just going to be different."

Meanwhile, Reneé Rapp will be reprising her role as Regina George in the movie musical, a role she took on at the Broadway musical.

"That's what I think is so cool because I feel like a lot of things get remade and... it feels like, 'OK, why are we doing this?' But for me, it's so sick because Mean Girls was such a big part of my childhood," Rapp told Entertainment Tonight. "So I'm like, 'Oh, so this is what this meant to me and my generation. It's a huge impact. What Tina did is big."

Aside from Rice and Rapp, Avantika will be playing Karen, Bebe Wood will play Gretchen, "The Summer I Turned Pretty" actor Christopher Briney will play Aaron Samuels, Jaquel Spivy will play Damian Hubbard, the best friend to Auli'i Cravalho's Janis Ian.

Show creator Tina Fey will reprise her role in the movie as Mrs. Norbury, Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall, while John Hamm plays Coach Carr.
