John Mayer set the record straight regarding the future of Dead & Company.

The band confirmed this year that its tour, which was a follow-up to their summer shows in 2022, would serve as the final one. Rolling Stone reported that Dead & Company would stop touring after 2022, sparking buzz.

Now, Mayer shared the band's plans after eight years of performing.

Dead & Company Members Spoke Up About Disbandment Rumors

In his new interview with Andy Cohen, Mayer revealed that Dead & Company members want to keep playing together. However, they are currently in the dark with regard to the next steps they should take.

"We will play shows - I have to believe that we love this music so much we're gonna play shows - we just are trying to figure out what that looks like for the future," he said. "Everyone has it in their hearts to keep playing."

Dead & Company launched their 2023 without Bill Kreutzmann after the drummer suffered health issues.

Despite the rumors, Mickey Hart previously shared a similar statement to ABC Audio saying that they never said they would never play again.

In July, the band's manager, Irving Azoff, said that, while Dead & Company would not be on the road, it does not mean things are over for them for good. He told Pollstar they should never say never because of the special events they might attend soon.

Dead & Company Will Never Disband

After the news about their decision to stop touring, Dead & Company members clarified that they were not disbanding.

Mayer also told Sammy Hagar that he did not see the band quitting the music industry even after the Grateful Dead members retired.

"I knew my life was never going to follow a straight line when I started playing guitar," he declared. "And I looked at the guitar one day and I said, 'I'll go where you lead me.'"

Meanwhile, Weir told The Wall Street Journal that he has no plans to retire.

On the other hand, Kreutzmann shared a post, adding #themusicneverstops and #wewillsurvive in it.

Dead & Company debuted in 2015 after Grateful Dead members reformed the group alongside Mayers, Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge.
