Madonna caused a stir as she wore a controversial hoodie that featured Pope Francis.

On Tuesday, the iconic pop star 65-year-old is famous for using religious and sexual imagery in her work for many years.

The black Seks garment had robes with the word "Madonna" printed on it. This sparked yet another conflict between the singer and the Vatican.

In an unexpected twist, the "Material Girl" singer donned a hoodie featuring an image of her with a pair of fiery wings on each side and flipped off what appeared to be none other than Pope Francis as she modeled it.

Drawing on Madonna's famous words, dseigners Abel Cepeda Ljoka and Will Kowall crafted a unique garment with a specific meaning. Referencing her famed quote - "I would like to see Pope wearing my T-shirt" - they made an ironic post decorated with red thread related to kabbalah.

Speaking to Page Six, they explained that this red thread was intended to defend wearers from any negative energy.

Meanwhile, Madonna has been hoping to receive an audience with His Holiness Pope Francis for years. In 2022, she took to Twitter in a message reading: "Greetings @Pontifex Francis -I'm a faithful Catholic. No swearing involved! It's been quite some time since I've taken part in confession."

"Would it be possible to meet one day to discuss some important matters? I've been excommunicated 3 times. It doesn't seem fair. Sincerely, Madonna."

During her appearance on Andrew Denton's show in 2019, Madonna also revealed that she would be interested in having an audience with the Pope at the Vatican to discuss Jesus' stance on women's rights. She said it was a conversation she'd like to have - "Let's talk about what Jesus thought about women's rights; let's discuss it."

Questioning his opinion on women's rights, the singer expressed hope for a conversation with the subject of their debate. "Perhaps one day he will even invite me," she commented optimistically, believing such a dialogue may be possible with the Pope. "I think this one might... I think he would be open to discussing it with me."

In 2015, Madonna had something funny to say about Pope Francis. She jokingly suggested that he was "stalking" her because his visit to NYC coincided with one of her concerts.

She expressed her admiration for the pontiff and remarked: "Rules are for fools. That's why I like the new Pope. He seems very open-minded."

At that same concert, an abundance of religious references surrounded the audience. Women clad in nuns' habits took to the stage and graced attendees with a dramatic pole-dancing routine on crosses.

Though she is well known for her hit song "Like a Virgin," Madonna has had a complicated relationship with Catholicism.

This was especially true in 2006 when Madonna performed in Rome and wore a crown of thorns while strapped to a cross.

Some members of her faith found these actions quite blasphemous.

Offering a staunch response, the late Cardinal Ersilio Tonini declared on behalf of then-Pope Benedict XVI that "She should be excommunicated" when criticizing what was seen as a "blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross," as reported by the Evening Standard.
