For the longest time, there have been reports about Slipknot feuding with another band called Mushroomhead. More recently, the original singer of the former group, Anders Colsefni, broke his silence and addressed the issue between the two rivals.

The musician recently appeared in an episode of the "Everblack" podcast, as reported by Blabbermouth, where the host asked him if there was any rivalry or competition between his band and Mushroomhead.

He explained that back in the day, Slipknot had never heard of the other group because there was still no internet at the time and unless they came to their town to play some gigs, which they didn't, Colsefni's band wouldn't know who they are.

When the group was starting, they were influenced by another group called Mr. Bungle and all the shows they witnessed and loved during their childhood.

"We got sick of watching bands just doing their thing. And there's no problem with doing that, but it's, like, we wanted to do something," he added. (via NME)

Slipknot Managed to Breakthrough Despite Being From Iowa

Mushroomhead was the first one to release a musical project as they dropped their first-ever self-titled album in 1995. Slipknot then followed in 1999, which overshadowed the other group as they became more popular than the other one.

Launching a career from Iowa was never easy for Slipknot as Colsefni described their area as "pretty much farm fields, corn fields, and hog." He even noted that it's "a terrible place" to launch a band.

Fortunately, the group was able to breakthrough into the music industry thanks to their hard work and effort.

Slipknot Original Singer Anders Colsefni Recalls Seeing Mushroomhead Copying Them

Later on, he recalled witnessing Mushroomhead for the first time. At the time, he noted that he was already with his other band Painface in Chicago.

Someone brought a magazine and Colsefni noticed that there was a similarity between the other group and his as the bass player wore a pig mask.

"I'm, like, 'The bass player has a pig mask. Those f****** copied me.' Cause I picked out the pig mask for Paul [Gray, the original bassist of Slipknot] because he was too lazy to go there and get it," he added.

Even though there has been a long issue between the rival groups, it appears that they already buried the hatchet as the founding drummer of Mushroomhead, Steve "Skinny" Felton, revealed in a previous interview that they spent a lot of time complaining about slipknot for nothing.

"They're still one of the biggest bands out there, man. It proves that masked heavy metal and that style of entertainment is still relevant - it's still very relevant," he said. (via Loudwire)
