Slade vocalist Noddy Holder was given less than a year to live when he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

Noddy has been going in and out of the spotlight for years, with his name only appearing in headlines a few times, though he was able to mark an appearance on stage with Tom Seals this summer.

Recently, an update about the musician revealed what truly happened to him.

Slade Vocalist Noddy Holder Was Diagnosed With Esophageal Cancer

Noddy's wife, Suzan Holder, recently penned a column for Great British Life magazine and revealed that they learned about his cancer five years ago. She also shocked fans when she disclosed that the doctor gave him six months to live after discovering his illness.

According to Suzan, the diagnosis was a "total bombshell" for them, but they did not let it consume them by coping with it in every way possible while sticking closer together.

"We told only immediate close family and friends and I will never apologise to those we did not confide in, only to those who were forced to suffer pain and anguish alongside us as we attempted to navigate our way through this new and horrifying world," she wrote. "They held our hands and kept our confidence. We truly found out who our real friends are."

Suzan expressed how she was in awe of how Noddy dealt with the treatment and surpassed the months his doctor gave to him. Five years after the diagnosis was made, the musician is said to be feeling good and looking great while coping with the battle with "amazing good humour and breath-taking bravery."

In addition, Noddy reportedly faced his struggles and underwent a grueling phase of treatment to become part of a brand-new trial of chemotherapy.

Noddy Holder Responded Well To Cancer Treatments

Before trying the proposed treatment, Suzan said they were told that no one knew if it would have any effect. Still, Holder responded well to it while helping himself by not worrying about the future and yearning for the past.

"That attitude served him well and a lot of his recovery has been credited to his positive mental attitude," she continued. "You need so much mental strength to get through something like this. I've always been impressed by my husband's focus and determination, but now I am completely in awe."
