Jay Weinberg just departed from Slipknot weeks ago and underwent surgery for his hip and femur, but this won't stop him from doing what he loves the most, drumming, as he made a big return on stage along with a different band.
According to Metal Insider, the musician performed at the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville, Tennessee, with Bouncing Souls. Although he only played one song as the final track of the night which is "True Believers."
Taking to his official Instagram account, the drummer shared his sentiments about making a comeback on stage after his surgery. He also expressed his gratitude to the band as it's one of his favorite groups.
"What an absolutely incredible night, seeing one of my all-time favorite bands @bouncingsoulsnj. It felt amazing to play drums for the first time since my operation; especially this iconic, belief-affirming anthem," he wrote in the caption.
Jay Weinberg Has Been Inspired by the Bouncing Souls Since His Childhood
Later in the post, he recalled a specific memory about the group, saying when he was 14 years old, he wasn't that fond of being a "novice drummer" because of his shyness.
Initially, he wanted to explore drumming privately without anyone seeing him, even his immediate family.
Fortunately, since the Bouncing Souls are also from his hometown in New Jersey, they were some of the first people who heard him play the drums.
"They generously invited me to sit in for a song or two at a secret show at @asburylanes in May of 2005, which ended up being the first time I'd ever played drums in front of anyone," he added.
Weinberg noted that it was his "single-most foundational" moment of how he appreciated being a drummer.
"I'm thankful for the friendship of the Souls and the wonderful community that surrounds them," he added.
Jay Weinberg Surgery
The recent news comes a few weeks after he revealed that he underwent surgery to repair the torn labrum of his left hip. In addition, his femur was also shaved down because it was misshapen.
He told his followers that the surgery has been a long time coming and it's been his priority to undergo an operation, but he was busy with his drumming career.
Weinberg finally made the decision to schedule the surgery without being interrupted as his next show would be in April 2024, meaning he still has a lot of time to recover.
