Official release dates have been set for the highly awaited biopic Black To Black, which is about Amy Winehouse.

The film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring British actress Marisa Abela as the late eccentric singer-songwriter, is scheduled to open in US theaters on May 10, 2024. However, moviegoers in the UK will get to see it four weeks early, on April 12, 2024.

Focus Features has characterized the upcoming biographical film as a never-before-seen glimpse into Amy Winehouse's early rise to fame and the release of her groundbreaking studio album, Back To Black.

Recounted from Winehouse's point of view, the movie offers an honest look at the woman who becomes a worldwide pop sensation and the relationship that served as the basis for one of the most iconic records ever made. In addition to being her breakout album,

Principal photography on Back to Black started in January 2023.

The film was shot in several popular sites in London, where Winehouse developed into a globally renowned performer.

Scenes were recorded at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, when the icon began giving live performances and began to refine her now-famous sound. Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the movie, originally witnessed her performance there as well.

Back To Black was also her last album released before her untimely and terrible death in July 2011 from alcohol intoxication. Winehouse had broken up with Blake Fielder-Civil before the album's October 2006 release, and she based most of the record on her turbulent relationship with him.

In the end, their brief breakup served as inspiration for her to write a number of songs that address themes of guilt, loss, betrayal, heartbreak, and trauma in a relationship. He had left the growing celebrity to go after his prior ex-girlfriend. Back To Black quickly became popular with a broad audience and propelled her to stardom following five successful singles: Rehab, You Know I'm No Good, Back To Black, Tears Dry On Their Own, and Love Is A Losing Game.

The intermittent couple eventually reconciled and tied the knot in 2007, only for Fielder-Civil to be sentenced to prison the following year and their divorce to occur in 2009.

Speaking following her 2011 death-which was attributed to alcohol poisoning-Fielder-Civil said they had a crazy four months during which time his drug usage spiraled out of control and that he regretted introducing his ex-wife to heroin, according to Mirror.

Her popularity may have been partly due to her instantly identifiable contralto vocals, which are a sort of classic singing voice, as well as her unique mash-up of modern and vintage sounds with soul, R&B, and jazz reggae.

Her groundbreaking follow-up album sold nearly four million copies in the UK before going on to sell over 16 million copies globally. In addition, Winehouse won five Grammy Awards for the album, including Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for Rehab.
