Rakim is a rapper's rapper. He's often referenced as one of the best to ever get on the mic (examples here, here and here), so when he asks for something, he gets it.

His latest request is another sequel to Dr. Dre's "The Watcher," a song that kicked off Dre's iconic 2001.

Jay Z brought in Dre and Rakim to do "The Watcher 2" on Jay's Blueprint 2 in 2002, but the track has remained untouched since then. Now, Rakim wants to re-visit the classic.

"That was a Dre project, man. A joint that I did for Dre," Rakim said in a video interview with WhoMag. "Jay Z heard it and the rest is history, man. It was definitely a good, little get together with me and Dre. You know what I mean? And hopefully we'll do it again, man. 2014. Ya heard Jay? Ya heard Dre? Let's do it, man. 2015, the new 'Watcher.' Keep watching."

Last year, Rakim told XXL he plans to release a fourth solo album (though we haven't seen much in the way of it since).

"I'm working on an album right now. It feels good," he said. "I feel like I had a lot of responsibilities with [his last album] with everything that was going on and being the album was so late. The album I'm working on now. I can have fun in the studio and do good Hip Hop songs, so I'm kind of having fun with this one. I'm only a few songs deep."

But he doesn't feel as if he's ever released anything as good as Paid In Full, his classic LP with Eric B.

"Just because of the chemistry, man," he said. "And the way that it came together. We didn't have no experience in the studio... That first one was something that I remember and I always will, man. The way it popped off."
