Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater have new matching tattoos - and they're quite meaningful. Such a great way to end a year for a couple - only they're a controversial one and people might say something about these tattoos.
2023 was "one of the most transformative, most challenging, and yet happiest and most special years of my life," according to a letter that Ariana Grande placed in her posts, also referring to herself as "deeply misunderstood."
The singer disclosed that she and Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo received similar tattoos.
The stars nodded to Wicked, getting the words "For Good" tattooed on the palms of both hands. The 30-year-old pop singer shared the matching tattoos on Friday on her Instagram stories.
What does "For Good" mean?
With more than 60 tattoos, Ariana's date of ink was April 24, 2023, according to the stories. Ariana sent a single bubble and what looked like sketches for a Glinda tattoo with her note.
In the Wicked movies, which are directed by Jon M. Chu, Ariana plays Glinda. The popular Broadway show Wicked, which in turn was based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 book Wicked: Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, served as the inspiration for the film Wicked. Michelle Yeoh has been cast as Madame Morrible, and Cynthia Erivo has been cast as Elphaba.
Two sections of Wicked will be released a year apart. Wicked Part 1 was supposed to come out on Christmas Day, 2024, but it will now come out on November 27, 2024. The second part will come out on December 25, 2025. In her statement, she looked back on her 2023 year, which she used to concentrate on the Wicked movies and a new record that she has said she will release in 2024.
Ariana added bubbles on her note on her stories, writing, "One of the most transformative, most challenging, and yet happiest and most special years of my life. There were so many beautiful and yet polarized feelings.
"I've never felt more at the mercy of and in acceptance of what life was screaming to teach me. I've never felt more fulfilled by or present in my work, being able to cherish every moment."
Ariana seemed to respond to the criticism she received this year on her personal life in addition to talking about her role as Glinda. After two years of marriage, Ariana and her husband Dalton Gomez separated in July 2023. According to their divorce filings, their date of separation was February 20, 2023. It was soon made public that she was seeing Ethan Slater, her co-star in Wicked.
