Mark Ronson shares whether a "Barbie" musical on Broadway is possible.

The buzz for the said production continues to grow as the music that he had supervised in creating for the Greta Gerwig film is continuing to receive acclaim at this year's awards circuit.

Mark Ronson Open On Doing 'Barbie' Musical on Broadway?

In a press interview after winning the 2024 Critics Choice Award for Best Movie Song for "I'm Just Ken," Mark Ronson was asked whether he would be open to doing a "Barbie" musical on Broadway. (via People Magazine)

"I'm just waiting for the call," he teased. "It would be amazing. Greta basically made a musical that's without calling it a musical, so we would love it."

Ronson co-wrote and co-produced the song with Andre Wyatt, who also gave a hand in writing and producing the Dua Lipa hit song "Dance The Night" on "Barbie," which was also nominated for the said category.

"I think that we love music so much and we also love comedy. That's our other bomb, but we've never been able to merge them," Ronson said about Wyatt and Gosling on their songwriting process for the said song.

"I'm Just Ken" was a big shocker for many, including performer Ryan Gosling. This is because Billie Eilish and FINNEAS' "What Was I Made For?" has swept the Best Original Song category in other awards shows, including at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards.

Gosling's performance received rave reviews from critics and the public, making him a strong contender for the Best Supporting Actor category at the upcoming Academy Awards.

"Once we saw Ryan's performance as well, we were still making the song. We were like, 'Oh my God, we're going to have to dress the song up in the equivalent of a white mink and two sunglasses,' " he shared. "And then we called Slash... basically we were so inspired by everything."

Gosling thanked Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and Ryan Gosling in his acceptance speech.

"Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours. You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you," he said. "The fact that you carved out 11 minutes for this prog-rock, power-ballad, dream-ballet, shred fest so the boys could cry and hold hands a little too, we're really forever in your debt for that."

To date, Ronson is halfway to an EGOT award. He is already a recipient of an Academy Award for Best Original Song for co-writing "Shallow" and seven Grammy Awards. If he would bring the musical on Broadway with a production credit and it would snag a Tony, he would only be worrying about an Emmy Award.
