Oscars season is upon us and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released its shortlist for the Best Original Song category. This highly coveted category concerns musicians, singers, and songwriters.

As expected, the "Barbie" movie, whose soundtrack album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, has three of its songs shortlisted in the category.

'Barbie' at the Oscars 2024

Billboard says three "Barbie" songs are shortlisted for the Oscars for Best Original Song.

"I'm Just Ken," who recently got an Extended Play version from Mark Ronson and Ryan Gosling earlier this week has been shortlisted for the said category.

"Dance The Night," the Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson dance anthem, is also shortlisted. Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, who won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2021 for "No Time To Die," is a front runner on the race again this year with "What Was I Made For?"

The same three "Barbie" tracks were nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. Sadly, only two songs from a motion picture will be eligible to be nominated based on a rule change in the Oscars rulebook in 2008.

Early Oscars projections say that Billie Eilish and FINNEAS might score their second Oscar With "What Was I Made For."

Meanwhile, Olivia Rodrigo and Dan Nigro are also pressed to earn the first nomination for "The Hunger Games" franchise with "Can't Catch Me Now" for "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." The song has already won the Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Song in a Sci-Fi, Fantasy or Horror Film in its 2023 ceremony.

Dianne Warren is again shortlisted for the category for "The Fire Inside" from "Flamin' Hot." Like her past 15 nominations, Warren has yet to earn her competitive Oscar for Best Original Song, despite earning her Honorary Oscar years back.

"The Color Purple" has two of its songs shortlisted - "Keep It Movin'," written by Halle Bailey, Denisia Andrews, Brittany Coney, Morten Ristorp, and "Superpower (I)" by The Dream.

Meanwhile, Golden Globe-nominated tracks like "Addicted to Romance" by Bruce Springsteen and Jack Black's "Peaches" are shunned from the said shortlist.

The 2024 Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Mar. 10, 2024, while the official nominees will be announced on Jan. 23, 2024.
