  • How to Buy Locks of Mozart, Beethoven Hair at Sotheby's London Auction [LISTING]

Yesterday, May 28, at Sotheby's in London, a lock of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's hair, enclosed within a gaudy 19th-century locket, went up for auction. And no one yet knows just how many of today's farthings it fetched.
  • 7 Highest Priced Records on eBay Right Now: The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Mighty Sparrow Bring in Big Bucks, but Not Jack White Money

Jack White made headlines when he announced that he was the bidder who spent $300,000 for the acetate of Elvis Presley's original single, a 7" pressing from Sun Records featuring "My Happiness" and "That's When Your Heartaches Begin," and that his label Third Man Records would be releasing copies of the recording for Record Store Day 2015. That album was sold at a formal auction but you don't have to go that far for expensive vinyl: eBay has plenty of mind-boggling LPs up for sale. One example was the man who paid $37,100 for a copy of Tommy Johnson's "Alcohol and Jake Blues" during 2013. As Music Times hit publish, here are the seven records with bids of more than $1,000 on eBay at the moment, ranked from least to most expensive.

  • Sam Adams and Paul Revere: 5 Music News Clippings from Their 1795 Massachusetts Time Capsule (Beethoven, Haydn and More)

Perhaps you've heard, but a crew of researchers is, as we speak, unearthing a time capsule potentially buried by Samuel Adams and Paul Revere in the cornerstone of the Massachusetts State House during what's believed to have been 1795. The contents? Some coins, old newspaper clippings and an engraved silver plate...similar to what you buried in the back yard when you were a kid. Recorded music was far from understood at that time but we're curious what kind of music and news from the art world the Adams/Revere combo would have passed along to us had they been aware. With that we give you a collection of noteworthy musical happenings from 1795.

  • On Edibles at the Colorado Symphony Orchestra's 'Classically Cannabis: The High Note Series' Red Rocks Concert

The Colorado Symphony has ended its run of its invite-only "Classically Cannabis: The High Note Series" concerts last month. To recap: The CSO now allows the partaking of marijuana and alcoholic drinks during their performances. To wit, the musicians themselves are no longer required to wear tuxedos. Fittingly for a regular pot smoker, the OC Weekly's Chris Walker posted their review of their end of summer Red Rocks performance a month late. To join in the festivities, proper, Walker first went shopping for edibles at a local dispensary: the Denver Wellness Center.

  • Ben Folds Talks Piano Concerto, Bartok and the Babysitter Next Door with Gramophone

Songwriting comes from a variety of instruments, the basis of songs never being dependent on one set medium (in this case, medium being the instrument the song derives from). For me, that is an acoustic guitar.
