  • Live Nation Purchases Swedish Concert Promoter Stureplansgruppen Live, Owner of Summerburst Festival

    Live Nation Sweden has moved to acquire a majority stake in Stockholm-based Stureplansgruppen Live. SPG Live is a Swedish electronic music concert promoter that operates some of the most popular events in the Nordic region, including Summerburst Festival in Stockholm and Gothenburg, which in 2015 has confirmed such talent as Avicii, Axwell / Ingrosso, Afrojack, Dash Berlin and others.
  • Los Angeles City Council Rejects Recommendation Live Nation Run The Greek; New Hope for AEG/Nederlander

    Live Nation won't be assuming control of the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles anytime soon, as the City Council voted overwhelmingly to reject the recommendation of the city's Department of Recreation and Parks recommendation to accept. The concert promoter is battling the union of AEG/Nederlander for long-term control of the venue.

    Live Nation and the Hilton International hotel chain have entered a deal making Hilton the official hotel partner for the concert promoter, according to Billboard. Don't get too excited yet: That doesn't mean you should be booking rooms at whatever city One Direction is playing in that night assuming the group will be staying there too. The deal will result in exclusive performances for members of the HHonors guest program however.

    The taxpayers of Los Angeles may be souring to Jay-Z and his Made in America festival. According to a report from the "Los Angeles Times," the city could be on the hook for $170,000 of the total bill for the festival.Aides to the mayor tell the "Times" that Live Nation, the promoter for the festival, was required to provide $500,000 to pay for police patrols, street closures, trash removal and other city services. The total bill for the festival is expected to reach close to $670,000, leaving the city to close the funding gap.Mayor Eric Garcetti was a big proponent in bringing the festival to Los Angeles and, according to "Billboard," "Says it shows L.A. is capable of hosting a huge outdoor concert."According to Carol Schatz, head of the downtown-based Central City Association, the economic impact cannot be simply measured in strict dollar amounts.

The Recreation and Parks commission was originally scheduled to make a recommendation October 9 but mixed messages may require more pondering.

    Yahoo has announced a new partnership with concert promoter Live Nation to stream one concert every day. The service will start sometime this summer and will be featured at Yahoo Screen, according to Paste. The site will also store 1,200 of the best songs from those shows for on-demand streaming and will supplement the streams with interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
