Cyndi Lauper's rapper son, Declyn "Dex" Lauper, was arrested and charged with gun possession after he was found by local authorities near a shootout in Harlem.

According to reports, Dex's gun was inside a fanny pack, along with seven bullets in its magazine; he was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

Dex is the "Time After Time" singer's only son with "Law & Order" star David Thornton. He is 26 years old and has dabbled in hip-hop music, but is yet to reach mainstream or gain commercial success.

Reports note that police officers were conducting a canvas following a shootout in Harlem, New York after a 24-year-old was found shot in the leg.

Police happened upon Dex near the scene, and was immediately booked.

Apparently, the rapper was in a car with the victim when five armed men crowded them and shot his friend.

According to ABC News, this is not the first time Dex had a run-in with police or with the law. In 2022, he was arrested after he was found riding a stolen Mercedes.

He was admitted to disorderly conduct and he entered a jail plea agreement.

This time around, though, his actor father was around to bail him out with $20,000 cash.

David Thornton Bails Son Dex Out

The New York Post reported that Thornton brought bricks of $100 cash with him to the court cashier window along with his lawyer to bail his son out.

Meanwhile, during the arraignment, Assistant District Attorney Harriet Jiranek said this in court: "The defendant and the separately apprehended individual drove to the location both with firearms to engage in what appears to be illicit activity."

"My point of bringing that out is that you have another layer of supervision that he's privately engaged to have him seen and be there for him given when he's released during the pendency with this case," Steven Brill, Dex's attorney said, noting the rapper has been working on going to the right "direction."

He might be alluding to Dex's previous arrest, although he did not say.

As of this writing, the "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" hitmaker has yet to issue a statement regarding her son's behavior and arrest.
