When you hear the name JoJo Siwa, rainbows, sparkles, a high ponytail, and colorful makeup immediately come to mind. However, the singer/dancer had a massive rebrand in 2024, which buried her former persona in exchange for a darker one. More recently, the musician defended her decision to change her aesthetics amid the criticism she received on social media.

According to Page Six, the former Dance Moms star attended the iHeartRadio Music Awards 2024, where she shocked people with her red-carpet look. Ditching her usual colorful outfit, the singer, who is set to drop a new record this year, opted for a darker one featuring a sheer bodysuit with silver details.

To complete the look, Siwa wore dark face paint that resembled the band KISS and a more edgier hairstyle than her high, side ponytail from years ago.

The singer spoke with E! News to defend her major rebrand after she received criticism from the public upon announcing her new music, which is catered to a more mature audience.

"People are afraid of things they don't know," she told the outlet on the red carpet, adding, "Things can be scary for people. New things can be very, very scary."

It is what the world needs, and I'm learning from what you are doing right now.'"
