A joke on X pushed Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel's names to the trending list.

Gabriel notably formed Genesis with Tony Banks, Anthony Phillips, Mike Rutherford and Chris Stewart in the late 1960s before Collins joined after John Mayhew, got fired.

The drummer ultimately became the lead vocals after Gabriel left in 1975.

Do Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel Look Alike?

On X, user @NoContextBrits uploaded a screenshot of "Fans also like" showing Collins and Gabriel side by side. The post has since garnered more than 1 million views.

"Why does Peter Gabriel look like an evil Phil Collins?" the caption read.

Users replied to the tweet and shared their thoughts, with most of them saying Collins and Gabriel do not look alike.

One said, "Genesis fans during the day vs Genesis fans at night."

"They were both the lead singers of Genesis? And Phil Collins was the groups drummer before Peter Gabriel left, so they were both original members, therefore probably from the same town, thus the same gene pool...&c, &c," another wrote.

While fans disagreed and laughed at the post instead, similar posts regarding the two musicians have been made in the past.

Threads on Reddit asked the public about Collins and Gabriel's voices sounding similar. As explained by longtime Genesis fans, the two probably sound that way as they both worked for Genesis.

One user explained, "When I first became a Genesis fan, I thought they sounded similar. However, after decades of hearing them each sing, I can tell the difference very easily. Actually, now I think that Elbow's lead singer, Guy Garvey, sounds like Gabriel. And, within the past few years, I realize that Family's lead singer, Roger Chapman, must have influenced Gabriel, especially during the early Genesis years."

Where Is Phil Collins Now?

While Collins' name was seen on the trending list again, the "In the Air Tonight" hitmaker has not shared a new update after joining the band's The Last Domino? Tour at the O2 Arena in 2022. He announced his retirement at the time due to health issues.

Collins sustained an injury in 2007, and it eventually injured his upper neck's vertebrae and left lasting nerve damage.

He also told BBC Breakfast that he could barely hold a stick because of his health condition.

"Somehow, during the last Genesis tour, I dislocated some vertebrae in my upper neck, and that affected my hands," he said. "After a successful operation on my neck, my hands still can't function normally. Maybe in a year or so, it will change, but for now it is impossible for me to play drums or piano."
