Grammy-winning singer-songwriter SZA will be honored with the Hal David Starlight Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The honor follows SZA's succes at the 2024 Grammy Awards, where she won Best Progressive R&B Album, Best R&B Song and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Phoebe Bridgers.

According to Variety, SZA will receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the 53rd Annual Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards dinner on June 13, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

The "Snooze" songwriter will join Timbaland, Dean Pitchford; R.E.M.'s Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe; Steely Dan's Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker, and Hillary Lindsey as horeees at the ceremony.

Songwriter Diane Warren will receive the Johnny Mercer Award at the event.

What is the Hal David Starlight Award?

The Hal David Starlight Award is named in honor of the Songwriter Hall of Fame Chairman Emeritus Hal David for his longtime support of young songwriters in the music industry. The Hal David Starlight Award is given to "gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs."

SZA has received critical acclaim for her songwriting prowess on her historic album, SOS. She received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Ghost in The Machine" with Phoebe Bridgers, a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song for "Snooze," and a Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album for SOS.

The Hal David Starlight Award has previously been given to artists like Nate Reuss, Dan Reynolds, Alicia Keys, John Rzeznik, Rob Thomas, John Mayer, Drake, Benny Blanco, Jason Mraz, Nick Jonas, Ne-Yo, Lil Nas X, Halsey, Sara Bareilles, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, and Taylor Swift.

"This is such an exciting time for songwriters and music. Phenomenal artists like Beyonce and Taylor Swift are pushing the envelope of what success looks like but who could argue that the last two years belong to SZA. Incredible songwriting, incredible performances, incredible artistry. She so deserves to be the 2024 recipient of the Hal David Starlight Award!" Songwriters Hall of Fame Chairman Nile Rodgers said in a statement.
