Fans of Dave Matthews Band are well aware of the fact that the musician has time and time again dipped into the acting field. Truth be told, before getting into music, Matthews' did want to be an actor. And while he's done some parts in the past, now he's getting a starring roll in a Meg Tilly-directed film Angels.

Reported by Showbiz 411, Matthews is gearing up to play the leading role of a man who finds himself struggling financially with the hopes of getting his two-year-old daughter a liver transplant.

The gossip site calls the film a "Christmas miracle kind of movie," which will begin filming next March in "either update New York or in Kentucky."

Angels will not only be directed by Tilly, but the script was also written by the noted children's book author, who is the sister of Hollywood's own Jennifer Tilly. The writer made her debut back in 1982 with The Big Chill. Her other works include Agnes of God, Valmont and the more recent Bomb Girls, among others.

While she has acted and written scripts in the past, Angels will be the first time Tilly has ever sat in the director's chair.

Matthews, as mentioned before, has had several appearances on the big screen – including many Adam Sandler films such as You Don't Mess With The Zohan, Just Go with It and I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry. He also had a role in the 2005 Jeff Daniel-starring film Because of Winn-Dixie  as well as a part in a 2007 episode of the Fox hit House.

Showbiz 411 also notes that Johnathan Dorfman, Matthews' business partner and manager, will executive produce the film.

Oddly enough, DMB has a song called "Angel" –– watch it here!
