As if Adrian Peterson hadn't already been disgraced enough thanks to child abuse charges hanging over his head, the Minnesota Vikings running back admitted before a drug test on Wednesday that he recently smoked a little bit of marijuana. The NFL player is currently free on $15,000 bond, and after failing the test he is fully expected to be re-arrested on a drug charge. Peterson originally appeared in a Texas court this week but wasn't required to enter a plea in his child abuse case, something that came as a surprise.

As of right now it's unclear whether Peterson will simply turn himself in on this new pending drug charge and if so, whether or not bail will even be granted is completely unknown. Any way that you look at it, Peterson imminent future is looking pretty bleak. If he is convicted on the child abuse charge, Peterson could face six months to two years in state prison, though he could be placed on probation as a first-time offender.

Peterson is also facing possible NFL disciplinary action under the league's newly bolstered domestic violence policy. That means a possible suspension for up to six weeks. He is still on Commissioner Goodell's permission list which means that he is receiving his full $11.75 million salary while being barred from all Vikings activities until his case is full resolved. Whether or not the Vikings will even want to keep their former star player beyond this year is another big question. Somewhere along the way Peterson reportedly became a lot more trouble than he is worth for the organization.

Do you think that ultimately the NFL is going to decide to come down hard on Peterson in an attempt to make a cautionary example out of him? Should they? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
