Singer Scott Weiland is currently working on a solo album with band The Wildabouts, and it sounds like the record will be a departure from music by his previous bands Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver

"Well, this album is different, the current one that I'm working on with the band," he told Songfacts in a recent interview, Blabbermouth reports. "In the past, writing alone, I've written much more eclectic records. It's more obscure music."

Weiland went on, saying that as a solo artist "I kind of felt free to go off and explore all different styles of music that I've been interested in over my lifetime and find some sort of cosmic melting pot for it."

The upcoming untitled album will be Weiland's third solo release -- he put out 12 Bar Blues in 1998 and Happy in Galoshes in 2008. The singer said that his new effort won't sound like those previous works. "This is much more of an indie-sounding record, but it still is very much a rock and roll record. There's big, fuzzy riffs and it's cool. It's a whole new experience," he said.

Recently, ex-Velvet Revolver bandmate Slash said that the band is still looking for a lead singer. "A lot of people are asking questions, and it's been very active under the radar," he told Radio.com. "I mean, nothing has happened with it as far as getting a new singer, so there's nothing to talk about. But there is activity going on, and there's people that we've been checking out. At some point the right guy's gonna walk in the door, and at that point, then we'll look into making another Velvet record."

Chester Bennington of Linkin Park took over singing duties for Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 following Weiland's dismissal.
